Welcome!

When I was growing up, home cooked meals and outdoor play was the norm.  Public service announcements preached the ills of sitting too close to the television – not watching too much of it.  Play dates didn’t have to be scheduled into the day – they were an inherent part of the environment as large groups of neighborhood kids moved from one house to the next from dawn to dusk, breaking only at the sound of the dinner bell which signaled time for nourishment and family.

Somewhere between then and now, the norm for our current young generation has changed as we presently outsource our food for convenience, letting someone else take control of the calories, fat, sugar, and salt that we consume.  At the same time we have insourced our play, surfing the net instead of the waves and watching “stars” on reality T.V. shows rather than the ones in the night sky.

Our search for the “good life” over the last few decades has us now longing for yesteryear when our population weighed less as a whole and the condition of type II diabetes was almost unheard of in a child. Green and sustainable living is increasing in popularity as the solution to create a healthier nation – an undertaking that requires a collaborative effort.  My goal for this blog is to provide for readers a support community that can freely exchange ideas, information, and tips on how to promote not only our own health, but that of our family, friends, and the general population as a whole.  To this end, I invite you to participate in the Health and Food Forum’s Blog whether it is by subscribing to email updates, joining a group, and/or by leaving comments about the posts.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the HFF’s Blog or would like to become a member of the blogroll, please feel free to contact me at cindy@healthandfoodforum.com.

Enjoy your visit this community.

Sincerely,

Cindy Haskin-Popp
